The Draft: Eurasian Conference
The players competing in the Eurasian conference of the inaugural Global Poker League Season were confirmed last night during the GPL Draft at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
Rome Emperors manager Max Perscatori went for a Roster consisting of Italians Mustafa Kanit, Dario Sammartino, and Walter Treccarichi, alongside Canadian Pro Timothy Adams. The London Royals, headed up by Liv Boeree, scored big names in every round, locking up Igor Kurganov, Vanessa Selbst, Chris Moorman, and Justin Bonomo, undoubtedly putting London amongst the early favourites.
The Moscow Wolverines lead by Anatoly Filatov opted for 3 Russians: Vlad Troyanovskiy, Andrey Pateychuk and Sergey Lebedev, to accompany opening pick Dzmitry Urbanovich. Berlin Bears manager Philip Gruissem, acting vicariously through Lynn Gilmartin after being unable to reach LA, drafted Brian Rast, Sorel Mizzi, Dominik Nitsche and Jeff Gross.
The Paris Aviators, piloted by Fabrice Soulier, achieved a seemingly enviable blend of local and overseas talent, after opening with French speakers Elky and Davidi Kitai before adding George Danzer and Canadian Mike Leah. Rounding out the Eurasian conference at the draft was the Hong Kong Stars, managed by Celina Lin. She opted, as many expected, for an all-Asian roster of Weiyi Zhang, Raiden Kan, Dong Guo and Bryan Huang.
