The Knockout stage - quick recap and format summary
September played host to China’s opening stages – in what seemed like a free for all brawl with heavy action going down both in the live and online legs of the competition. The league’s 12 teams were cut up into 3 ‘groups’ of four teams each – with each teams players taking turns racking up points. There’s a lot of stats and information to cover for the league’s 1st month of play, so instead of listing it all here, we invite you to check out our detailed play by play results coverage here on the site instead.
For a quick recap of the format and final results check out how the action unfolded online and live in terms of format:
Online: 4-max matches – played on two tables at once for each group. Points gathered depended wholly on which place each team’s representative finished.
Live: Things were a bit more complicated here. Each group of 4 teams had their moment in the sun – playing a full day of poker competition in 3 rounds:
- Round 1: 8-Max:
This is full ring no limit – and the GPL China studios had 3 tables set up to accommodate 2 members of each team on each table.
- Round 2: 6-Max:
This was short handed mayhem, but this time with 3 players from each team on a table, with each table designed as a team versus team battle.
- Round 3:
“2 versus 2” Heads up:
Possibly the biggest innovation happening in GPL China right now – this format has the day’s 4 teams splitting up into pairs, with two players from each team facing off heads up against 2 members of another team.
Each team gets 1 hand. The idea here is that (hopefully) two heads are better than one.
